On July 8, the San Francisco Giants were in second place behind the surging Los Angeles Dodgers and seemed to be on the verge of a collapse. Fast forward to today and the Giants are now the 2012 World Series Champions.
The Giants won due to stellar pitching performances and solid hitting, especially from World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval. The Giants were able to stop the all-star hitting duo of Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder with strong starting pitching from Barry Zito, Madison Bumgarner, and Matt Cain. Also, the Giants hitters such as Buster Posey, Marco Scutaro, and Pablo Sandoval had great World Series performances, which gave San Francisco their second World Series win in three years.
Many believed that the Tigers would win due to their impressive rout of the New York Yankees, a favorite in this postseason, but the Tigers had no answer for the Giants’ starting pitching or closer Sergio Romo.
The Giants now head into the offseason with a few issues, like dealing with Lincecum’s poor performance this year and Melky Cabrera’s steroid situation. Still, they will hope to carry their momentum into next year.
