Bullis bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to rival Landon in a big way on Friday night. From the opening kickoff, the Bulldogs took charge of the game with a forced fumble from wide receiver/cornerback Kyven Jones ('14) and recovery from safety Micah Keels ('15). Less than a minute into the game, tailback Brandon Izzo ('13) got Bullis its first points of the night on a three-yard touchdown run.
Williams wasn't the only Bulldog to post impressive numbers. Izzo scored a pair of touchdowns on the ground, as did fellow tailback Jonathan Dyer ('13). Quarterback Yusef Muhammad ('15) completed both of his passes, including a 15-yard strike to tight end Noah Spriggs ('14) in the back right corner of the end zone. Safety Nick Fields ('13) read a screen pass and shot into the backfield to record his third interception of the season. Attah was the Bulldogs' most disruptive defensive player, getting in on two sacks and three additional tackles for loss, and Jones returned an Episcopal punt 42 yards to set the offense up inside the Maroon five-yard line.
Due to the Bulldogs' 21-point first quarter lead, Williams and many other starters enjoyed a rather short night. In the second half, underclassmen outnumbered juniors and seniors on the field, and Muhammad was pulled from the game early. The inexperienced replacements deserve a lot of credit for preserving the shutout against Episcopal.
This win may be too little, too late for the championship-minded Bulldogs, though. They finish their conference play with a 3-1 record, and do not control their own destiny in their quest for a second consecutive banner. Instead, the 3-0 Landon Bears can clinch the IAC championship with a win over St. Albans next week. A Landon loss would give Bullis a share of the conference title.
The 8-1 Bulldogs only have one game remaining on their schedule. They take on Georgetown Prep on Friday, November 9 at 7 pm on Senior Night.
