Well if there’s one thing I’ve learned from watching the NFL, it’s that nothing is guaranteed on a week-to-week basis. I have to admit that after Cam Newton and Panthers handed the Redskins arguably their most disappointing loss of the year, I was ready to stand up and jeer with the rest of the crowd.
Now the Redskins enter the last four game stretch of their season with playoff hopes very much alive. However, the NFC East remains tight as the Cowboys and Redskins sit at 6-6 and the Giants have fallen to 7-5. Can anybody tell who will win the NFC East?
The Redskins have two remaining divisional match-ups, and with what we’ve learned from their recent three game win streak against the team's three division opponents, division games are important and pivotal. The Giants and Redskins both have two games against teams with a record under .500 while the Cowboys have one. Buckle your seat belts because the division race is going to be close.
So, as a lucky fumble-turned-touchdown determined the outcome of the Redskins-Giants game last night, it may very well be a lucky bounce that determines who wins the NFC East. And while fans may cheer, jeer, and curse each other, it is the unpredictability and excitement that draws us to close division races. For now, I advise all of Redskin nation to bask in the glory and happiness of this last win because nobody—and I mean nobody—can truly predict how this NFL season is going to end. I mean come on, did anybody actually think the Giants would win the Super Bowl last year? But until Washington has played out it’s last snap of the 2013 season, let us celebrate the potential for football greatness in the years to come and sing some of the greatest words known to man: Hail to the Redskins!
