With the IAC regular season championship already under wraps and a #1 seed and a bye in the upcoming IAC tournament clinched, the Bullis boys varsity basketball team had two goals last night: to send their five seniors out in style and to go 10-0 in the IAC. They accomplished both as Bullis beat rival Georgetown Prep 63-58 in front of a big crowd.
After a gut wrenching game of knockout during halftime in which Blake Micholas ('17), took home the prize of a $25 Potomac Pizza gift card, the game began to take shape. Georgetown Prep came out on a mission in the second half to close the gap, but each time they made a run, Bullis answered. Late in the fourth quarter, Bullis had opened their lead back to 10, and the game seemed to be in their hands.
While the respective student sections jabbed back and forth, the Little Hoyas made one final run. Prep meticulously cut the lead from 10 down to 2 with 30 seconds to go. Bullis responded as guard and Georgetown Prep transfer Jamaal Greenwood ('14) hit two key foul shots to put Bullis up four and seal the deal.
Prep was led by Michael Wolfe who gave the Bulldogs fits all night, scoring 25 points including a coast-to-coast drive ending in a ferocious dunk, but his effort were not enough. Thompson dropped 25 points to lead Bullis in scoring, draining five three pointers.
“It was a close and exciting game. The crowd was great and really made senior night a memorable experience” said Thompson.
Thompson showed his maturation, and on senior night, showed that he would not let his team lose.
