In this years 2015 NFL Draft, Jameis’ pro day had benefited his stock, on the other hand another potential 1st round pick Marcus Mariota pro day had not benefited his stock, in fact actually it might of hurt his stock because his performance was subpar. In the past, pro days like Johnny Manziel, Jamarcus Russell and Andrew Luck had helped their draft stock. Some pro days such as Teddy Bridgewater, Matt Leinart and Jake Locker had hurt their draft stock therefore making them get drafted later on in the draft then had initially expected.
Two quarterbacks that are considered 1st round talent are Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. Jameis is the consensus number 1 quarterback this year and is expected to go first with the Tampa Bay Bucs showing strong signs for drafting a quarterback. Winston had backed up his 1st overall pick in this draft process by having strong performances after performances. On the other hand Mariota has had some wavering reviews about his pro-day and combine performance. There is no doubt that he is a far superior athlete than Jameis but they have been some things that scouts have been really picky on with Mariota, such as his unorthodox throwing motion, laid-back personality and lack of experience of under center QB play. Mariota is still considered a 1st round pick but it is hard to see which team will select him in the 1st. He will most likely go first round but there is a possibility that he can land in the mid to late draft due to some lackluster or mediocre workouts.
You can nearly ask any quarterback what is one of the most important events in the process of getting drafted they will let you know it’s the pro-day. Now it doesn’t mean the pro-day make or break a quarterback’s career because there have been busts with a great pro day like Vince Young and Jamarcus Russell who both had a great pro day but had lackluster and unproven careers in the NFL. One thing's for sure though, and that is if you have a great Pro-Day it guarantees a great pay day on draft and thats for sure.
