“Of all things we just have to be extra careful to keep the guys from getting hurt,” Coach Kelley told the Bulldog. One precaution the teams are forced to take is not playing full court due to a protective wall that lies close to the edge. Another issue is the need for constant and diligent moping of the courts to accommodate for the dust that finds its way into the gym from the hall.
Returning players are quick to say that the season feels different and out of sync due to the changes. Coach Kelley supported this idea stating, “it’s a disruption to the normal flow, the small things you might not think about make a big difference.”
Some of these changes effect the entire student body as well as the winter athletes. The annual dogeball tournament is usually held before winter break, but this year will be held off until the construction is completed.
Another change is that for the first time in many years, Bullis will not be hosting the Holliday Classic basketball tournament.
As the renovations continue, it is important for winter athletes and students alike to remember how fortunate we are to have access to the gym and everything it contains. We wish the Basketball teams the best of luck as they carry on with their season, and we look forward to the unveiling of the finished project.
