Terrorists have long been a part of society – for instance, the Al Queda who was behind the 9/11 attacks against twin towers or the Taliban who took over Afghanistan. Recently, the focus has been on a terrorist group known as ISIS.
The most recent attack made by ISIS was an extremely graphic video, released to the public, of a Jordanian pilot being burned alive after being captured in Syria. This isn’t the first instance in which the group has released a production like this, as they have also released videos of beheadings, but the difference in this case is that this video is produced as a major project. People believe that months of work were put into the creation of this document to make it as painful to watch as possible, because it was made in HD quality with the addition of special effects and dramatic music.
Although this act of terrorism did what it was meant to do and inspired fear in numerous people, many regard the act as overall detrimental to the group’s success. Since the video was leaked, many people in Jordan have been expressing their hatred and anger with ISIS through various retaliations and messages, one of which was the demand to execute members of ISIS and other terrorists being held captive in Jordan. King Abdullah of Jordan saw the video as an invitation of all the nations in the world to come together and challenge ISIS in an effort to destroy the group. Currently, Jordan is preparing to launch air strikes against ISIS in their hunt for revenge.
Like King Abdullah, President Barack Obama feels as though the video has sparked extreme motivation and urgency in countries wanting to bring down ISIS. While the terror group intended to inspire fear by releasing the video, it has seemed to only raise the urgency to destroy ISIS, and with the amount of nations feeling the urge to act, it’s possible new forces can come together with a strong intention to destroy ISIS forever.
A video this barbaric being released to the public can create many different reactions. People are meant to feel scared and nervous as they are unable to pinpoint the location of these dangerous criminals, others feel strong hatred and frustration with the ISIS and their government’s inability to track down and destroy the group who continues to threaten innocent people all over the world. As more and more videos are released, it’s being realized that with each act, the attacks grow more frequent and more violent.
Although we’re unable to predict the future of ISIS and their interaction with the rest of the world, it appears as though they have insinuated their own destruction with the release of their most recent video. The amount of hatred in violence in one recording has managed to bring together nations with the intention to obliterate ISIS from society once and for all.
