G-O-P-R-O-I-P-O. That’s right, GoPro has recently announced that it is trying to GoPublic. It announced Monday that it was making an Initial Public Offering of 100 Million Dollars. With the release of this news, the public got its first look into the financial status of this Billion Dollar wearable technology company. Its sales last year was 1 Billion Dollars, with a 60 Million Dollar profit. This is concerning for potential investors, as they only had a 6% profit rate.
As of now GoPro trumps the market, but is that going to last? Is GoPro a short lived trend or an innovative and proprietary line of devices? I think that GoPro will always be looked at as being the creator of the wearable action sports camera, but I also believe bigger players will innovate the existing device. Unless GoPro can get better margins on its profit and can innovate with the future, I think it will lose market majority within the next 15 years.
