For the 2019-2020 school year, Bullis saw the addition of hour long lunches. This lunch time was meant to take Bullis to the next level, but is that what is happening? With this long lunch Bullis students have experienced many positives and many negatives. Some students do not like the new lunch system, and would rather have the old schedule put back in place. The hour long lunch is, “useless because the lines are way too long and the 60 minutes isn’t useful since the cafe is too loud to study and the library is way too packed to get work done” Nimay Kumar (‘21) believes.
Along with these viewpoints from Kumar, he also stated that he wishes “enrichment was back because it simply achieved the goals of hour long lunch better”.
Although some people think this lunch is not the best, others believe it’s nice to get the break and enjoy getting to hang out for a little while. “I can eat for as long as I like” said Isaac Aronson (‘20), who thinks the long lunch is a positive.
With the shorter lunch that Bullis used to have, students rushed their eating and did not get to enjoy their food. Along with being able to enjoy lunch, students “get some free time, hang out with friends and meet with teachers” Dimitri Sfakiyanudis (‘21) stated.
All in all, the change to the lunch can be somewhat controversial, but the addition was put into place to help Bullis LEVEL UP through community by togetherness and communication with students having genuine conversations with one another.
