Spring is such a wonderful time of year; cherry blossoms blooming, spring sports booming, and juniors and seniors gearing up for the long anticipated prom. However, as quickly April 26th approaches, it appears that another prom is creeping up on us with little to no warning. Well, instead of letting this prom take you by surprise, follow this list of prom “do’s” and “don’ts,” to make sure your experience at the “big dance” is as magical as it should be.
One of the best things about prom is being able to take somebody, spending the whole night laughing, bonding, and having fun with them, and in turn creating lasting images. There is a false notion that if you take somebody to prom you have to “hook up” with them, however this is completely false, and many people simply go as friends. Therefore, there is no reason that you should be alone on prom night, and with that being said get to asking! You are almost out of time!
Don’t: Ask late
If you are going to ask somebody to prom (see above “do”), do not wait till the last second! People will need some time to prepare for their night with you, and therefore need more time than a couple of days. This “don’t” especially applies to if you are asking an underclassman, because they, unlike juniors or seniors, will not have a tux ready, and will be forced to salvage one in quick time. This causes unnecessary stress and can be bad for both people.
Do: Take tons of pictures
Wherever you are before prom, weather at a pre prom party with your friends, or at home with momma and poppa, make sure that you take tons of pictures. Prom is a night that you will want to remember for the rest of your life, and you will want to look back at how good you looked before the big night. You will want to look back and wonder “how could I wear a white tux and pink tie???” Therefore, snap as many pics as you can!
Don’t: Use your phone
When you’ve finally gotten to the prom, make sure that your phone is away, your hands aren’t in your pockets, and you are ready to dance dance dance. Prom is a time for you to socialize, not be on social media, therefore you should have no need to be on your phone. Put it away and live in the moment, this is a night to remember.
Do: Dance like never before
There are two types of people at prom: those who dance, and those who watch others dance. You want to be the first type. At almost every prom, there “dance offs” where you will have your shining moment to make a mark, and you must make sure to take it. Hop in there and go crazy, I promise you are embarrassing yourself more by not dancing then dancing, and it will be worth it to dance.
Don’t: Be nervous
I know that right now you must be a little bit nervous, to go to prom, and for some of you it might even be your first one. But I just want to give a word of advice to all prom night participants this year: DON’T BE NERVOUS. Prom will pass you by if you don’t learn to relax and enjoy every moment of it. So just, relax, and enjoy a night you wont forget.
