When asked what she thought the best part about yoga was, Titmuss ’16 replied, “The best part about doing yoga is the feeling afterwards when you're stress-free and completely calm.” Along with reducing stress and promoting calmness, yoga reaps many other benefits including: it helps develop strength and increases balance, it promotes thinking and memory, and it increases concentration, focus and attention span. All of these benefits have made it a popular choice at many surrounding schools as well including: The Potomac School, Maret and Sidwell Friends School.
Students do yoga during traditional winter sports hours and practice a range of poses. Titmuss ’16 commented, “We usually do different yoga poses that use different parts of our bodies. Then at the end, we do Savasana which is a relaxing pose laying down to really take in the yoga we have just done, and the surroundings.”
With the excitement surrounding yoga this year, we know it will be a popular choice for years to come.
