On September 20, the highly anticipated Drake x Future collaboration titled “What A Time To Be Alive” dropped, causing a craze among fans. The creation of this album was a surprise, though, since Future had just come off of his very successful album, “DS2,” which was the #1 album on the Billboard charts. This shocking collab project was a very strategic move for both artists. With Drake coming off a nationwide buzz from his Meek Mill diss called “Back to Back” and Future selling over 150,000 units of “DS2,” it proved to be an extremely smart business move for both of the successful artists.
The hype that has generated from this album is extremely substantial, considering there has not been as big of a buzz in the hip-hop industry for a collaboration album since Kanye West and Jay Z dropped “Watch The Throne.” HotNewHipHop.com predicts that “What A Time To Be Alive” will sell more than 500,000 copies in the first week, which would put them ahead of Kanye West and Jay Z album that had sales of 430,000 in the first week.

Drake described this project by saying that “It’s a little soundtrack for people that need it right now,” and when asked to describe his time working with Future, he said that "[he] went to Atlanta for six days a couple weeks ago with the hopes of doing some songs with Future, and when you get around Future, it's like a vortex, that guy can outwork anybody right now...it's tough to see someone do four, five songs in one night and not try to match it."

On the album, there are 11 songs:

1. Digital Dash

2. Big Rings

3. Live From the Gutter

4. Diamonds Dancing

5. Scholarships

6. Plastic Bag

7. I’m the Plug

8. Change Locations

9. Jumpman

10. Jersey

11. 30 for 30 freestyle

My three personal favorite songs are Jumpman, 30 for 30 Freestyles, and Change Locations. These three songs show off both Drake and Future’s versatility as artists. In Jumpman, the duo combines for an up-tempo and hyped song. In Drake’s solo song, “30 for 30 Freestyle,” he raps 4 minutes straight showing off his lyrical talents. Lastly, in Drake and Futures song, “Change Locations,” they switch up the style and take it back to more of an old school, relaxing vibe showing off their talents as artists.

Overall, the album provides fans with an extremely interesting collaboration between two very successful artists. The album will continue to climb up the charts and provide extreme amounts of revenue for both artists, and it will be very exciting to see the success that comes along with the collaborative album.
