In recent years gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movements have reached new heights, legalizing gay marriage and winning over the support of millions. In honor of LGBT month this October, the Bulldog wanted to look at how lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender movements have influenced pop-culture. The timeline of LGBT matters is reflected in the growing gay or lesbian characters we see star in our favorite television shows. From the 1990’s when gay and lesbian matters began to grasp more attention, to the legalization of gay marriage in the early 2000’s, it is evident that LGBT movements did not just influence politics, they influenced the TV world as well. As society has become more open to LGBT matters, pop-culture has become increasingly more accepting of them as well, exemplified by the increasing number of gay television stars and characters in today’s popular shows.
