Queen Beyoncé first gained popularity with the girl group “ Destiny’s Child” in the late 90’s. However, it was with the launch of her solo career in 2003, that her charm, talent and sex appeal brought her international stardom. Since then there has been no stopping the Houston native. Her five solo albums have all reached the peak of the Billboard Charts with no sign of slowing down.
It is not solely Beyoncé’s persona that intrigues listeners worldwide, but her unique style containing modern pop beats, funky melodies and breathtaking vocals have made her one of the most influential artists of our time.
Beyoncé proved that it is possible to defy the traditional album promotion procedure and thus revolutionized it in the process. The record sold an astounding 800,000 copies in the first 48 hours after it’s launch, making it the fastest selling ITunes album, ever. The risk payed off.
Much like the album itself, Beyoncé went back to the basics with its’ release, relying solely on word of mouth marketing. With the release of the record exclusively on ITunes, its availability was limited and thus preventing illegal streaming beforehand. Through these limitations her fans had no choice but to promote the album verbally through word-of-mouth, a traditional method used before the rise of the Internet. Furthermore, Beyoncé’s strategy of release-helped increase the albums popularity because it was so different to anything experienced before. In the middle of her “Mrs. Carter World Tour” she caught everyone off guard with the release of 14 brand new songs and 17 breathtaking videos that complimented the music perfectly. She proved to fans that she is a strong women, one that was not afraid to fail.
“ The reality is, sometimes you loose. And you’re never too good to lose. You’re never too big to loose. You’re never too smart to lose. It happens and it happens when it needs to happen. You have to embrace those things.” B revealed in “ Self- Titled” a mini art feature to her album.
While these events helped shape the 2013 music industry, little attracted more attention, and was seen as influential as Queen B’s Beyoncé. The album is a masterpiece filled with songs ranging from feel good tracks to personal confessions, From the provocative “ Drunk in Love” which features her husband JayZ to the tranquil “Mine”, the album captivates the listener with timeless songs that allow Beyoncé to emerge as a new artist while staying faithful to her old self. “ I took all the things I wanted to change about myself and all the things I wanted to share, and I put it into this record.”
Without a doubt Beyoncé’s Beyoncé is the album of the year.
