Best Holiday Songs at Bullis

12/18/2018

By: Matt Kelly

“Oh, the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we've no place to go Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”
The start of winter break nears and throughout Bullis whispers of winter break spread. The holidays are notorious for their songs.
For some, the music during the holidays is better than the holiday itself. Recently Bullis staff and students filled out a form asking them to list their favorite holiday songs. Out of the 250 responses, Mariah Carey’s, “All I Want for Christmas,” is the most popular holiday song with 35.6% of the votes, this was clear based on the rendition offered by the Upper School at Thursday’s assembly.
Following that was the renowned Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel garnering 21.6% of the votes. The third most popular holiday song at Bullis is, “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas,” with 20% of the votes going towards that jingle.
The songs represent a different meaning for everyone, “Holiday songs to me, mean that it is getting cold outside which means it is one step closer to lacrosse season,” said Brian Wilmans (‘19).
Holiday songs allow people to think of the good times, commonly making people think of their families. “They make me feel happy and festive. When I’m sad holiday songs bring me up, and make me think of family,” said Jessica Schuble (‘19).
While on break, take time to think of why your favorite holiday songs are the best, and what they make you think of. Songs should make you recall what you are thankful for as we dash through the snow into the New Year.
