Its 3:30 on a blustery winter day. While most students are either rushing to their winter sports or heading home for the day, there are a few students who head to the Blair Arts Center for the after school art program.
Some students have particular reason why they are in the program. Some have specific passions in the mediums through which they make their art and some are experimenting with different techniques and forms.
Anderson Folsom and I were experimenting with different techniques and designs for making t-shirts. We used Adobe Illustrator for some of the designs along with spray painting, stencils, and lastly, block printing with Styrofoam. Using these various methods, we created many different shirts, which we showcased along with the rest of the program's work in our Open Studio Art Show at the end of the program.
Every student submitted three final pieces for the art show. With so many different ideas and mediums, there were many interesting and amazing pieces. The pieces showed each of the student’s hard work and creativity through the 11-week program. All of the student’s had a lot of fun and enjoyed the experience and especially valued the opportunity to progress their art further than the 40 minutes of class time they get during the day.
